This 600 square meter site in the inner-city suburb of Ashgrove boasts city views in an area well serviced by excellent schools, amenities & local parks. Our clients approached us seeking an Architectural family home that would enhance their way of life.

The home includes a secure double garage with flexibility for another 2 cars or a wellness space. The main living, dining, kitchen & outdoor rooms & a guest suite occupy the lower level. The upper level incorporates the 4 bedrooms, bathrooms & a rumpus / wet bar space with terrace to take advantage of the city views.

The design is intended to be a simple, elegant, linear form perched up to view the city skyline.

One of the main challenges of this project was how to work with a site that sloped from left to right across the street.
We responded by giving the house a 'plinth' at its base which houses the 4 car garage & elevated the 2 levels above this to take in the city views.
We thought of the house as 'cascading' down the street, which is alluded to in the stepped nature of the horizontal bands of the facade.

Intimate living spaces have been created inside & outside of the home.
The interior has been designed with a neutral material palette of timber, whites & feature white stone. It is envisaged as light & airy, sliding doors fully opening up the inside to the outside courtyard & pool.

A built-in joinery wall has been incorporated to allow for display items

Visibility across the living areas & to the pool was considered when designing the floor plan.

The pool is surrounded by subtropical greenery to create a private family oasis.

The city-facing terrace is an outdoor room that can be opened & closed via curtain and/or sliding batten screens.

Windows to a double height living space have been positioned to capture the city skyline views coming down the stairs.

The facade is a combination of timber-look aluiminium, concrete & white timber battens angled towards the city.

The house has been designed to sit prominently on its site.
"After some time searching for an Architect that understood our vision for our bespoke New Farm development, we decided to work with Folar Studio for our initial concepts.
We have found FOLAR to be very professional and informative for our consultations, & as our project is a major renovation, we have been very impressed with James and his team on presenting us with several design options, for the unique combination of a 1925 home and a 1950's brick building at the rear of our property".
